cannot get x configured

Can anyone one help me get xfree86 configured? I already have it installed and I cannot get get the virtual desktop disabled. I already tried ctrl alt + and it is not doing any good . this only seems to work in the graphical configuration programalso the mouse does not work right when i startx. What I am referring to as the virtual desktop is the desktop is larger than the screen and the desktop can be moved wiht the mouse. I would like to disable this featrue.

try

Code:

XFree86 -configure
Code:

cp /root/XFree86.new /etc/X11/XF86Config-4
For your mouse try configuring it with sysinstall tool

I tried the first command the first command and than I entered the command that showed up on the screen and than it went to a screen with a x for the mouse and the mouse worked. Than I tried startx and it went into kde and I had the exact same problem.

I tried the second command and I got the messsage command or file not found
