I have a broadband connection at this new place. It goes like this:
Broadband modem <--> Wireless router <--> My PC with wireless adapter <--> Internet.

The wifi adapter (man ath) is detected by OBSD 3.8 (Release). My computer gets an IP address from the DHCP pool and then I have to authenticate myself with a username and password and then I am on the Internet. But that's in Windows.

My question is how can I go online using this connection under BSD? Which file should I write the username and password to?

Any other tips and suggestions would be handy. I am new to this broadband, wifi world.

When you say you authenticate, is that to actually connect to your service provider, or to authenticate on the network?


If the former, then can your wireless router do the job? If not, then you will need a PPPoE client. What make and model is the router?


If the latter, what method are you using to authenticate? OpenBSD does not yet support the WPA authentication method.

The authentication is to connect to my service provider. I haven't checked if the router can do the job yet. It is a Linksys/ Cisco router. I will dig PPPoE which I think is the answer.

Linksys make routers with and without login clients built in.
