Any way to import Google contact into Thunderbird on FreeBSD ?

I am using Thunderbird on FreeBSD, is there any way to import Google contact into TB ? there is add-on for Linux but does not support FreeBSD although there is add-on for Google Calendar, I read somewhere that TB has stopped developing is that the reason ?

Thunderbird is still being developed. To import Google contacts into Thunderbird, go to your Google contacts and export your contacts as .csv. Save the file, then import into Thunderbird. It might take .vcf files, but I haven't tried that. .csv works.

Yes I understand that, and I did that before I use Gmail, but I want the contact to auto sync like on Android device instead of to do it by hand every time, any trick ?

I don't see why the add on / extension wouldn't work. What is the add on called and how are you trying to install it?

Authenticating with Google will be the big hurdle. I think they use oAuth but haven't been a Google customer in years so can't remember. When I used FreeBSD as a desktop I manually sync'd everything. Unfortunately, FreeBSD doesn't get the desktop love like Linux does.

Tbsync is an extension available that will sync calendar and contacts with Google. It installs from the menu. It uses optional other add-ons from the same developer, which you will discover when you configure tbsync. You obviously need a Google account in order to use Google contacts and calendar. Lightning, the calendar extension, is installed automatically when Thunderbird is installed, although it's not necessary to use or configure it for email. When you set up tbsync you will be taken to Google to log in to your account and allow access to tbsync.

The extensions are for Thunderbird, and while I can't guarantee that they will work under FreeBSD, I don't see why they wouldn't. If Thunderbird runs, the extensions should also.

I can't find tbsync how do I install it ? I just reinstall the system and Google Contact add- on worked before the TB update follow soon after, at least I successfully sync once need not to manually input email address for the current contacts.


I also look for a way to easily sync my settings like Firefox, but it seems no easy way to do it but that's another topic.

You install add-ons in Thunderbird by opening the menu, clicking Add-ons, and finding the add-on you want. You can type it in the search block. There may be others that are useful to you.

Oh got it, it was a typo I can't find it the first time, this one is more complicated and provide more features, also need to work with other add on, I still want the Google Contact back hopefully will be updated later.
