Change Window Manager
How can i change my default window manager to KDE instead of Gnome when i startx? :confused: FreeBSD 4.7

A freebsd issue....
sorry if i sound like more noob than you can handle but i need some help. How can i change my default window manager to KDE instead of Gnome from the when i startx? :confused: FreeBSD 4.7

there is a bsd forum here you know....

a quick way to fix it is to type either kde or gnome instead of startx it does mostly the same thing...as far as how to change it for when you use the startx command i dont know try the bsd forum as acid suggests...also your not supposed to double post...

barring goofing about with xdm, create a file in /home/whateveruser called .xinitrc with the path to the init file for the wm. For fluxbox for instance I think its /usr/X11/bin/fluxbox
That's it, or better really is to link .xinitrc to a pre-built xinitrc... which were probably installed with the rest of the system, a locate will find 'em. Offhand this is any system with X, Linux, the BSDs... Cheers, Finegan |

I must take Avenging_Angel's part: Many questions arising on a FreeBSD system are not system specific and only need a GENERAL UNIX KNOWLEDGE to answer. This was the case, too. If it is so, why should not he ask his question in the Linux forum, where he is likely to get a quick answer? I think the spirit of this site is 'friendliness and helping each other disinterestedly' and not 'keep the rules and maybe you get help one day'. The latter should be reserved to the microsoft support. This is my opinion, apart from my gratefulness to acid_kewpie and trickykid who are the first to help when needed. |

I was not replying to yours but mainly to J_Szucs response as you can see I quoted him when I replied. Though this is a newbie question, its still a BSD question which belongs in our BSD forum. Issue dropped, lets move on now. |
