Installing SuSE 9.0 to dual boot on an IBM ThinkPad T41 with XP

I recently purchased an IBM ThinkPad T41 (TC13JUK). IBM's reputation for producing excellent laptops and for having a Linux friendly disposition were important factors in my purchasing decision.
