I. Initial Configuring of Wine

1. K Menu>Emulators>Winetools hit OK on all the notices until you get to the main menu
2. Select Base Setup and then click OK
3. If you don't already have a fake windows drive, then select Create a Fake Windows drive and continue until you get back to the [Base Setup] window
4. Select DCOM98 and then click OK and continue through the setup until you get back to the [Base Setup] window.
5. Select Internet Explorer SP1 English and then click OK and continue through the setup until you get back to the [Base Setup] window
6. When finished with previous steps hit the [Main menu] button to return to main menu
7. Select Modify the Wine configuration and then click OK
8. Click on the Drives tab and select Autodetect
9. Hit [Apply] and then you will be returned to the main menu

II. Installing Starcraft from a CD

1. Put the Starcraft original CD into your optic drive
2. Open up the Konsole terminal program and Wine the location of the installer on the CD drive for example type: wine 'd:/install.exe'
3. Continue through the regular Starcraft install until completed
4. Replace the Starcraft CD in your drive with your Broodwar CD (if you want to play Broodwar)
5. Repeat step 2 this time continuing through the Broodwar install (if you want to play Broodwar)
6. Read section VI. if you want to upgrade your program

III. Running Starcraft from a CD

1. Put the Starcraft or Broodwar CD into your optic drive (Depending on which version you want to play)
2. Open up the Konsole terminal program and Wine the location of the installer on the CD drive for example type: wine 'd:/install.exe'
3. Hit the Play Starcraft button and it should work, to add more functionality see VI. and VII.

IV. Installing Starcraft from an ISO file
1. Obtain an ISO file of either or both of the Starcraft CDs and copy them to some location on your computer
2. An ISO must be mounted at the root level for you to be able to use it as a Wine drive. To set the root password you must go to K Menu>KNOPPIX>Set password for root. You then need to open the root terminal go to K Menu>Utilities>Root Terminal
3. For both ISOs you need to make a new mount directory for example: mkdir /mnt/Starcraft /mnt/Broodwar/
4. Change to the directory where your two ISO files are for example (for usb drive): cd /media/sdd/
5. For mounting Starcraft ISO: mount Starcraft.iso /mnt/Starcraft/ -o ro,loop
6. For mounting Broodwar ISO: mount Broodwar.iso /mnt/Broodwar/ -o ro,loop
7. Now go back to Winetools main menu and select Modify the Wine directory and hit OK then navigate to the Drives tab
8. Add two new drives to the drive list by clicking Add twice
9. Scroll down the list to where the two new drives are created (Don't use drive Z), and select one of them to be your Starcraft ISO directory and for the Path: /mnt/Starcraft then hit the Show Advanced button. For the type select CD-ROM (otherwise you will get no cd in drive error). Label the drive: Starcraft.
10. Repeat step 9 for Broodwar Path: /mnt/Broodwar then and drive label: Broodwar
11. Hit Apply to finish wine configuration

V. Running Starcraft from an ISO file
1. Open up the Konsole terminal program and Wine the location of the virtual CD drive by typing: wine 'x:/install.exe' where 'x' is the wine drive of the mounted ISO you want to run (Assuming you completed part IV successfully)
3. Hit the Play Starcraft button and it should work, to add more functionality see VI. and VII.

VI. Downloading the battle.net update without using battle.net
1. Download the latest 'windows' patch from a site like http://creepcolony.com/official.shtml as of writing this article the latest patch for broodwar is 1.14. If you have the full Broodwar installed then download the Broodwar one, otherwise download the Starcraft one.
2. Once you download it you need to Wine it. If you downloaded patch 1.114 for Broodwar to the Desktop, in the Konsole terminal program type: cd Desktop then type: wine bw-114.exe (For best results you probably want to wine this file from the same directory where Starcraft is installed, copying it there and Wineing it)

VII. IPX Setup
1. In the root terminal go to K Menu>Utilities>Root Terminal type: ipx_interface add -p eth0 802.2 0x39ab0222 (where eth0 is your ethernet device you use to connect to the internet and where 0x39ab0222 is a possible IPX address)
2. Goto http://www.faqs.org/docs/Linux-HOWTO/IPX-HOWTO.html for more help

VII. Miscelaneous
Bug: Starcraft loses your screen resolution when you exit if it was above the above like 1400x1050 before you played
Bug: When you join a battle.net game sometimes your screen goes black and you have to click the screen in order to see the join game window and move your mouse around to 'wipe' on the game
Bug: Sometimes wine doesn't play sound correctly on a computer
Bug?: Single player runs faster than on Windows and menu's appear faster also

*Knoppix is the easiest Linux, no installation required, no harddrive required. Try Knoppix by going to http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html and downloading.
