Although Deepin is a Chinese distro, it is usable in English. Its wiki and forum are in Chinese, but there is an official Deepin section on this site.

The CD started by offering to check itself, but this didn’t work, merely locking-up the computer.

When I booted into the live session, there was a user guide on the desktop that was supposed to display with Yelp, but that crashed. The media player failed to play any files, even the mp3 that worked with the music player. Finally, the computer locked up when shutting down.

Ubiquity, the installer, also crashed. This looked like the same bug that was present in Ubuntu 12.04, on which Deepin 12.06 is based: the installer stops just before creating a user and installing Grub. It only affects a minority of computers, but unfortunately that includes mine.

Five bugs on one disk is not a good sign. To make sure the problem wasn’t me, I burnt a new disk, but to no avail. Unless you’re desperate for a distro with Chinese documentation, this cannot be recommended.
