Description: Knoppix is a live-iso based off Debian. Put it in your CD-ROM and boot from it and it will auto-detect almost everything. It is great for demenstration purposes for when someone asks what linux is and is very easy to start. Knoppix is also great as a recovery CD since it modifies its fstab when you boot from it so you can see Linux and Windows partition.
Keywords: Quick, reliable, smart, easy, demonstration

Blows Windows XP away. I popped in the disk, it booted up. Painless. It plays MP3s fine, goes into my hard drive so I can get files, auto-mounts USB Keydrives, stores my configuration on said keydrive, plays DivX videos without downloading the codec for them, and above all, it's fast, even running from a CD. Comes with Wine, so you can run quite a few Windows applications with it. So, basicly, it does everything Windows XP does, but it's not overbloated, it doesn't crash, you don't need to install anything, and it's free. The only problem I had was that for some reason, even at 100 Hz, my refresh rate was a tiny bit flickery, but nothing to be worried about.

I can only compare this to the other version of Linux I've used, Mandrake. Mandrake was terrible. Knoppix is great.

Pros: Good, Fast, Easy
Cons: No Itunes

Yes this one was awhile ago, even tho I have the screen image somewhere with the interesting eye image I can can read the 3 phrases which were something wonderfully techno-spooky Dream Consciousness, <something else>, Create Reality ... Do I have it right so far and what was the "Middle Phrase" or what were all three phrases.

Thanks, Steve
