Description:
|
"The Ripper Gang is pleased to announce the final public ISO image release of PCLinuxOS 2009.1. This release features Linux kernel 2.6.26.8, KDE 3.5.10, OpenOffice.org 3.0, Firefox 3.0.7, Thunderbird 2.0.0.14, KTorrent, Frostwire, Amarok, Flash, Java JRE, Compiz Fusion 3D and much more. We decided to use KDE 3.5.10 as our default desktop as we could not achieve a similar functionality from KDE 4. We will however offer KDE 4 as an alternative desktop environment available from the repository once we stabilize it."

Has a LiveCD disk from which you can see how it works and then install it if you wish.

Cons:

Uh, you still need to learn a little Linux?

This is a great product which is developed on a "When it's ready we'll release it." cycle, which makes it a good option for those who just want a Linux version that they can just pop into their CD/DVD tray and install. It takes about 10 minutes to install, depending on your CD/DVD, hard disk and CPU speeds.
It then sets up a KDE desktop which has OpenOffice, FireFox, Thunderbird Mail, GIMP, Konqueror (and the one i like, Krusader) already installed.
It seems to recognize the monitor/video card combo on the first try and will setup your Ethernet connection in a jiffy!
The rest of the programs are available through Synaptic -- just a download away.
What more can i say! The darn thing just works!
Have a great day! :)
