I am rather impressed by Ark. I found me way around quite easily and quickly set it up to look almost exactly like my Windoze interface, which further made the switch to Linux easier. I am quite happy that I am not constantly prompted for the root password just because I want to "apt-get dist-upgrade" my system (I get quite enough prompting from my grandmother's Vi$ta computer just because I'm trying to fix the latest in Micro$ofts built-in problem). Also, it is the first distro I tried that worked out-of-box with my computer (I tried OpenSUSE and Ubuntu first; OpenSUSE had troubles with the sound server, and Ubuntu left me stuck in a CLI; OpenSUSE works with my system now, but I don't like it as much as Ark ;-) ).
So far, the only downside I've seen to this distro is it's Kynaptic-a GUI frontend to apt-get. When I try to install something that was just recently outdate by something else in the repos, instead of asking me to install the newer package, it ignores my request to install the outdated package, and when I click the Install Selected Packages button, it skips installing anything it did let me select for installation and just rereads the package list. Otherwise, it stands out as my personal favorite distro.
