Description: Touted as a Windows look Linux distro, Linux XP is based on Red Hat/Fedora and comes from Russia. It is available as a download or torrent (the torrent took 12 hours to download. The site says you get 99 activations and then you have to "buy" an activation key for $50, although I was reminded that I had no key on boot #2.
This distro was disappointing. While it installed easily on a HP ZE4315 laptop (if you like LVM partitioning) the packages are pretty basic, and their own repository has little more to offer.
The claim is that the activation key purchase is to cover propriety codecs, but as I was unable to get the included Totem player, or the repository Mplayer to work, it was hard to tell. They claim Wine is included, but I couldn't find it.
This is a distro with potential, but is too rough around the edges to consider seriously at this stage - especially as they seem to be wanting to charge for what appears to be totally open source code. Perhaps someone should look a possible violation of the GPL.
There are a lot better distros available, and unless a near Windows look is wanted, give Linux XP desktop a miss
Keywords: Windows look Red Hat Fedora

This version is a too buggy
I'm a linux newbie. However, I can't find any linux-familiar software in this distro.
They're trying to "mimic" Win XP but it's just the GUI.

The automatic updates are buggy. And I can't find a package manager.

Managing user accounts is impossible. Security is a forgotton issue ! You can log on as root by default !! To log on as a normal user you should log on as root first then switch users!

I didn't try the games, but I found enough bugs in this distro to wipe it out from my hard disk !!
