This book begins with how to host and manage a mail server;gives a comprehensive idea about the hardware needed, email protocols, back up mail servers. It elaborates show how to set up a postfix. After giving an introduction and the basic configuration and installation,it explains how to stop spam, what are virtual aliases domain. It covers troubleshooting postfixes in great extent.
Again it describes Downloading and Installing Courier- IMAP and POP3 in depth. Then it goes on to elaborate The benefits and disadvantages of a webmail access solution using the SquirrelMail webmail package, setting up and configuring SquirrelMail, what SquirrelMail plug-ins are and what they can do and how to make SquirrelMail more secure.
The next two chapters revolve around Procmail. It covers filtering, downloading, installation, basic operations, ules and testing. Then it elaborates on that with some advanced features of Procmail e.g., advanced recipe analysis,Procmail Macros etc. Then it explains SpamAssassin and how to use it and antivirus protection using ClamAV and ClamSMTP. It ends with giving a detailed description of the process of backing up and restoring your server's precious data.
I liked the direct and brief approach of the book alongwith a lot of examples and the way of presentation has been done. The book is quite exhaustive still integrated.
