I have bought this book for 2 years but never read it seriously until recently when I am working on a project at work. After finishing reading only the first few chapters and the on-line documentation within the first day, I can write a simple GUI programming that forms a foundation for the company's project.
One thing I find extremely useful is the coverage of GDK functions in the second section of the book which I cannot find in other books. The draw-back of this book is that it doesn't cover GTK+ 2.0. But again the on-line documentation can bridge the gap.
I also have the book "The Official GNOME 2 Developer's Guide" but I only use it rarely. I will rank the three resources, in terms of usefulness, in such a way:
1. Teach Yourself GTK+ Programming in 21 Days
2. GTK+ on-line documentation
3. The Official GNOME 2 Developer's Guide
