Pros:
Gives someone new to linux a basic starter course on a user friendly distro.
Cons:
Nothing much to work with after you are up and running.

I bought the book to get started learning about Linux and it comes with a live cd of Simply Mepis 2004.03 which allows you to run a complete operating system from your cdrom without affecting your harddrive. The book was very informative about formatting and installing Mepis to your hardrive, complete with screenshots that makes it almost impossible to make a mistake. The other chapters that described some of the different applications that come with the Mepis OS were simply basic overviews which left you wanting to know more. In Roblimo's defense there are alot of references to websites to find other information you would find useful in getting past the basics. I would highly recommend this book for anyone who is trying to make the decision of whether or not they want to try Linux.

All about GUI

This book shows great screenshots for beginners it is aimed at Mepis but it's great for general KDE info also.
I liked the book and the DVD that came with it, even though it was so basic.
Awesome for newbies!!!
