Description:

DSL is a good liveCD/minimal distro.
It includes a good amount of apps for a 50 MB download and has a nice interface to download prepackaged .dsl software using the myDSL download extension panel.
A small, but important feature is the irc client (nIRC) is already setup with a generic nick and logs you into the official DSL support channel.
The HD install took approx 5 mins or so once I got the partitions right. However on my AMD 850mhz 192 mb RAM DSL flies off the cdrom and hard drive.
DSL got my resolution just right on bootup, which is nice instead of having to run around for 10 mins trying to get it to look proper.
Highly recommended.

Fast - Small Download

Cons:

Small download = obviously doesn't have everything.

Previous to this I used :
Mandrake 8.1
Mandrake 10 CE
SUSE 9.1
KNOPPIX LiveCD (a recent ver)
DSL boots up fast and responds very fast once it's loaded. Even tho I don't like fluxbox, I like how DSL has their initial stuff setup, so I use it.
DSL is an excellent place to start for beginers to linux or pro's, because it's so small you can take it where you want. Keep it lean or load it up with your favorite apps and what not.
DSL does include some GUI tools to do configurations with and I found them very easy to use.
I look forward to the next version

This amazing little distrobution can easily work on the 8 year old computer that you were planning to throw away. The desktop is very customizable and laid out in an easy to understand fashion.
You may run DSL as either a tiny 8cm live CD or a hard drive install.
Installation should take no more than 10 minutes.

This is a great distro. It can be used in a variety of ways from a live cd, pen drive install, frugal install, hd install etc.
Programs are carefully selected for size and efficiency so it runs very well on old hardware (runs well on my old 233mhz).
You can easily add programs from the mydsl system or from apt.
