Pros: Straight forward examples. Easy to understand. Good for newbie.
Cons: iptables examples is poor. Had better luck learning from websites.

I had a lot of success learning Linux for the first time with this book. The examples and tutorials were done very well. I didn't like the iptables section at all. The author's recommendations to cut certain parts of the script also cut out the rules to establish new connections from the machine! (However, because iptables is a powerful tool and I was just learning at the time I may have overlooked something.) Despite my struggles with iptables I still highly recommend this book.

Pros: Clear and simple examples, easy to follow
Cons: perhaps it is overwhelming at first view

I am a newbie, but with this book and a few readings from websites I implemented a main network and routing to another office at 6 miles, sharing printers, internet access, etc.
Although english is not my native language, I found this book very well written, without many "computerish" words that in some books makes it impossible to undestand.
