Pros: Small, lightweight, fast, based on Slack, Slack-compatible
Cons: none

I have been looking for a good distro for my old laptop, and I believe I have found the perfect one in Minislack. This is the first lightweight distro that has lived up to its claim, and still been very complete! It comes with Xfce and Windowmaker, as well as all the necessary files to install Gnome and KDE if you would like. I chose not to, wanting to keep things as fast as possible.

Speaking of speed, as is with Slackware, Minislack is also based on the i-486 ideal, and runs like lightning on my old laptop! This is a great distro to try to breath some life into an old machine.

I really like the fact that it's based on Slackware, one of the most well-respected distros out there, and also the fact that all Slack packages will work on this distro. This distro also comes with Slapt-get, making package management a snap!

The only negatives were that Minislack didn't recognize my NIC or my soundcard. As I am using an IBM TP 600e, the sound is a constant problem. But once I described the problem to the Minislack forums, the site admin built an upgrade package that loaded the correct module and I was on the net in no time!

If you are looking for a lightweight, yet complete distro, Minislack is definitely worth your time to investigate.
