Slack 8.1 is all I need at the moment.

Two reasons to stick with 8.1 rather than moving on to 9.0:
1. gcc 2.95.3: gcc 3.x doesn't like too many programs(source)
2. libraries for gnome 1.X (even though I don't use Gnome,
lots of apps need some gnome libs), and I don't really use
anything that requires Gnome2 stuff :}

And since I always roll my own kernels I thought that
omitting the kernel-source from 9.0 was pretty low :}

8.1 rocks! After I install only what I need on the system which doesnt take long at all (seeing as I dont need to pick and choose through 4000+ packages).... and then comb through my init files, I can boot in about 20 seconds easy.

Its really a solid system too, no dependency problems in the pakages. One of my other systems has 9.0 on it....tommarrow its getting wiped and going back to 8.1. Way to many issues with it(gcc 3.2.2 is way too buggy, iostreams doesnt work!!).

8.1 while a bit old.....is still the greatest :^P

switched to this system after finally becoming tired of microsoft's need to candy coat everything and hold your hand through everything. my laptop runs great on this system. pictures are clearer, system runs faster, and their is a great support base amongst the linux community. have not had the chance to work with 9.0 yet, but i have minor trepidation from the stories that i have heard.
