Description: Yoper is a multipurpose high performance operating system which has been carefully optimised for PC's with either 686 or higher processor types. The binaries that come with Yoper have been built from scratch using the original sources combined with the best features of major distros, measuring up to the demanding proliferation of network communications and more intensive digital multimedia, graphics and audio capabilities which are ushering in a new era of business productivity enabled by a new generation of sophisticated microprocessors, and business application tools.

Pros: quick, easy install. fast. usually reliable.
Cons: some poor integration. rpms badly maintained.

About the rpms badly maintained. The programs within the rpms all work fine, but next to none of the rpms have a description. Usually they tell you what type of program it is (i.e. networking or security) but nothing more.

most programs are integrated well, but it doesn't feel as smooth as older distrobutions (e.g. SUSE). The default theme is excellent.

the inclusion of sax2 makes Yoper stand out from the crowd for me. It makes installation much easier.

Yoper is optimised for i686 processors, so it runs very well on newer (i686 i suppose) systems.

Conclusions:
The main let downs are the poorly described rpms and the new feel of the distro. Once many of the flaws are polished over, it will become a leading distro (in my opinion)

Pros: Optimized for higher processors
Cons: Non-intuitive, unfriendly installer

Good concept, but I can't get it to install. The first install attempt was on a i686 (AMD) Compaq laptop.

I was able to verify the best I could using MD5 and the on-disc media verifier that my disc was good, however I was unimpressed with the way setup resulted.

The setup (on more than one machine) had alot of serious hardware-related problems. It had trouble accessing my hard drive, detecting and activating my DVD drive, enabling USB, activating my PCMCIA and other problems. I could easily see some compatibility issues with maybe one of my machines, but it doesn't seem to run on ANY of them, which is very odd.

Maybe my problems were unique, but I have never seen such problems in a distro. The setup wasn't intutive at all, and left a sour taste in my mouth. It is relatively new, so it is bound to have problems. I'm hoping a later version might work for me.

For now, I'm moving Yoper aside in favor of a more mature distro.
