Description: Not only does it go over the daemons you'll most likely encounter in UNIX/Linux Administration, but explains how Linux works. Includes information on compiling kernels, info on server daemons and their config, and more than a handful of console commands. I definately recommend it for more than beginners--it's a good reference.

Pros: Contains practical projects to learn by doing.
Cons: DNS explanations lacking a bit.

Although it is the only Linux Admin book I've used, I chose it for the pro's mentioned above. The section on networking has been extremely helpful for troubleshooting networking problems and configuring networking protocols.

It has proven to be an invaluable reference for hardware configuring. It explains the boot process in detail, kernel compiling and configuring, and helps demistify many of the processes seen from: "#ps aux"

The section on DNS is difficult to understand and is explained not nearly as well as the rest of the book. This is understandable considering books have been devoted to explaining it. This keeps me from giving it a 10.

Pros: easy to follow practical administration
Cons: wished it was longer

Of all the books I've used for linux, this one was by far the best. Had just the right depth of coverage without getting into the arcane stuff. Great book for new to intermeddiate user.
