Pros: For beginners
Cons: Not enough for experienced users

This is a textbook we used for an OS scripting class in college. It was mainly for those new to linux and shell scripting. I would recommend it for beginners, and those who aren't experienced with linux or shell programming. It brushed on SED/AWK toward the end, but went into no detail about them. It won't suffice for anyone who has any experience with shell commands, or dealt with shell programming before. If your a beginner, it was a great place to start. It gave examples and explained fairly well what your typing, what it does, and why it works.

Pros: Will give basic ideas of howto program
Cons: Poorly written, and not many examples

I had this for my Shell Scripting class. To put it bluntly our teacher found it more confusing then helpful half the time, and we found numerous errors in answers and general discriptions.
I'd say if you have a good teacher for the class this is ment for its not intirely bad, however there are better and more helpful books out there.

Also to note is that you get Redhat 8 with this book. Though I find a distro thats about 4 years old of little help beyond what this book is for.
