Description:

"aLinux 15.0 released, updates the graphical installer, dialogues, etc., easier to install. Same old system but with just enough updates to be 'usable'. KDE 3.5.10, X.Org 7.7, glibc 2.17, GCC 4.7.2, Linux kernel 2.6.34.14, Perl 5.16.2, Skype 4.1.0.20 (MSN and Windows Live support). Main web browser is Firefox 17.0.1. Distro is optimized for i686 now. Kopete has been removed and replaced with Pidgin messenger. It's still a distro aimed at computers from the past (mine included), so if you're looking for the latest bleeding edge, you won't find it here, but if you're looking for something a bit more complete from a past 'yesterday' operating system that still manages to work in 2013, this may suit you."

Alinux is a strange beast. It's been around since 1996, but it comes and goes: new versions are released when the sole developer feels like it, often with several years between them. The repository is tiny: the 1.4MB DVD is all there is.
I downloaded the DVD from Ibiblio, possibly the world's slowest mirror, in 6 hours. It didn’t boot. As far as I could discover, the problem was in the initrd. A visit to the forum showed a couple of people had reported the same problem and the response was “really sorry about this … there’s definitely something wrong with the installer … I’m going to remove the ISO now from the main server until I get a chance to resolve it.”
Surely any intelligent person would actually try their software before putting it on-line? Will I be testing it when he gets round to re-writing it? Probably not.
