After a month of testing many different distros on my IBM Thinkpad T60, I have decided that Mint 13 will be the perfect replacement for Ubuntu 10.10 on both of my production machines (T61s). With the classic Gnome 2.X desktop, DEB repositories and 5 years of support, it will allow me to continue working with no additional learning curve. I rate it 10/10.

much faster than my windows xp on the partition
internet when clicked on goes to a default MINT pg, instead of google, firefox....pain in butt!
Not sure if I am qualified to review anything, let alone a new operating system for home computers. Have absolutely no background in computers other than a course at a jr college outside of cedar rapids Iowa back in 1992 in dos...so I guess that makes me a novice. That said I am a new convert to linux...MUCH MUCH MUCH FASTER than windows xp. My old pc of crap DELL c521 which has a 1.87ghz, 1.5gb ram, 80gb hard drive was so very slow surfing the web or doing anything that I was about to shoot it with my 12guage shotgun!, not kidding...pc of crap was getting to me. I researched Linux and wanted to get PINGUY after seeing reviews etc online and youtube. But downloaded Unetbootin and it did not have pinguy as an option, but now I am glad. Mint 13 MAYA, cinnamon is excellent, good choice for my older 32 bit pc....LOVE IT..I would recommend it to everyone, everyone would love its features, no need for antivirus, reg cleaners, and all the other stuff that clogs windows down to a crawl..the fact that I got I dont know how many viruses over the past 13 yrs of pc usage makes one wonder....here, ponder this one, I believe this is a true statement...WINDOWS has something like 35,000 plus viruses that attack and that number is growing by the hour...not day, HOUR...AND THAT LINUX HAS something like under 40, yes not thousands, 4 x 10. that alone means that everything on your pc is secure.....linux mint is so much faster, updates are free, lots of free software to download,,,why OH WHY WOULD YOU CONSIDER SOMETHING BESIDES LINUX FOR A COMPUTER????? that being said...MINT IS A GREAT CHOICE FOR EVEN NEWBIES LIKE MYSELF....maybe it would work for you as well for an older pc in your home...try it on it, then load later on your newer one...you will love MINT 13 MAYA, CINNAMON....gonna dump windows on my partioned hard drive and load only linux tonight.....finally got it right
