The latest version no longer has the problem with a customised install that I mentioned in the review of 6.0. Installation was easy and all the software worked perfectly.

The amount of software supplied is limited (the 2 DVDs contain the entire repository) to the needs of business users, so many will want to use extra respositories. This is explained at wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/Repositories and the instructions about setting priorities must be followed. Set the base repository to 1, EPEL to 2, and RPMforge to 3. There may still be the occasional problem with dependencies, requiring links to be added in /usr/lib. Perhaps surprisingly, CentOS advise against installing extra programs from source, and suggest using RPMs from other distros. If the material is of a similar date (e.g. Fedora 13 or Mandriva 2010) the process generally works.

I used the Centos 6.2 release in a netinstall format. Installation went smoothly and I only had to add 1 repo to get everything working (epel). I used Fluxbox/Thunar/Rxvt as my 'Desktop' and it all installed fine. Finished with SM Player which, after adding the multimedia codecs and w32codecs, pretty much plays everything.
