The 32-bit version is now on 2 DVDs, otherwise the comments in my review of version 6.0 all apply. As usual, all the software checked was fully stable.
Because Red Hat has reached 6.2, CentOS offers a rolling-release repository that will gradually transform 6.1 into 6.2. Support will continue until 2017.
One change is that the CPU must support PAE. For Intel, this just means Pentium Pro or later; if you have an early AMD Athlon, check for output from “cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep pae”.
This time I also tried the live DVD. This can install directly or from the live session. Installation copies an image, rather than using packages, so it must be to an ext4 partition, and it cannot be customised. Both the Gnome (2.28) and KDE desktops are installed, so there is a lot of overlapping software: Thunderbird, Evolution, and Kmail, for instance.
