Pros: Entertaining, educational, and safe
Cons: No wifi

Doudou is intended for children from 3 to 10. It comes as a live CD with no access to the hard drive (for obvious safety reasons) and is very fast compared to most live distros. It can be installed, but that requires downloading an installer (again for safety) and it is not intended to double boot.

It comes with a selection of educational and recreational games, epiphany browser, empathy messenger, totem media player, pdf and picture viewers, a text editor, tuxpaint, and a calculator.

A particular advantage is that DansGuardian is installed and configured. This gives Doudou an advantage over Qimo, since DansGuardian is not easy to set up.

Hardware support is a bit weak at present. There is no support for wireless or dial-up internet. Two games are 3D and only Intel and ATI cards are supported. Doudou suggests 256MB memory (128 possible), an 800MHz processor, and a 800600 display.

Some of the language needs revising: for 3-year-olds,"compose an image" should be "make a picture".

Everything I tried worked well, and DansGuardian was suitably tough: no watching Madonna on Youtube!
