The CDX version of Sabayon provides a basic system on which you can build your own spin from their repository. You get the kernel, the commoner tools (e.g. cat but not xev), xorg, the fluxbox window-manager, xterm, nano, and lynx. After that you're on your own!
The installer is the classic anacona, with the addition of a slide-show to entertain you while it works. I had no problems at all, although I must admit that I don't have 3D graphics or wireless internet to challenge the installer.
The package installation tool behaves just like yum or apt-get: equo install opera. Building and configuring my system was easy: like a major distro such as Fedora, rather than the more problematic ones like GoblinX or Slitaz.
