Puppy 5.0 features Quickpet, with some of the best Linux productivity and entertainment programs, configured and tested, available with one-click. It also introduces choice in browsers - pick one or all and choose the default. Lupu boots directly to the desktop and has tools easily at hand to personalize Puppy, if they are needed. Language and locale are easy to set. Barry Kauler's Simple Network Setup is another of those easy configuration tools. Updating to keep up with bug fixes is another one-click wonder."

Although I recommended the last version of Puppy, this one seems to have been released too soon.
Firstly, it is very difficult to get anything other than a US keyboard with no support for accented letters! The keyboard wizard does not work, so I had to re-write xorg.conf. Re-starting X then left me with a command-line interface and the suggestion that I run the x-configuration wizard. That created a new version of xorg.conf which gave me a British keyboard, though I still have to fix Compose and Level 3 Shift.
As well as using its own repository, Puppy can now install programs from the Ubuntu repository. Opera installed perfectly, but the attempt to install the man pages failed for no apparent reason.
Anyone prepared to accept this version out of the box will find it satisfactory. But if you need to configure it, and lack confidence or experience, it would be better to use version 4.3 until 5.1 appears.

Hard to install
Puppy works great. it runs fast and with minimal ram. I am impressed. It is easier than Knoppix on low end machines. Just that the install wizard needs some tweaks here and there. I totally suggest puppy if you have hard drive issues, it makes a full desktop without a hard drive.

This is a great little distro that I like to use on computers with older hardware. Mostly it works real well, but in 5.0, trying to install programs is a dependency hell problem. For a user who is a newbie, this will really discourage them from using the distro. It's not clearly explained how to fix the missing dependencies problem. 4.3 was much more together. Maybe 5.0 was released a little too soon.
