Description: This is a Live CD distribution. It's like KNOPPIX, but with GNOME as the environment instead of KDE.

Would you recommend the product? yes | Price you paid?: D/L | Rating: 8

Pros: Runs like a charm, has decent variety of software
Cons: Not what I'd want for everyday use

I strongly recommend this product if you need a "rescue disk" for Linux, and you like Gnome instead of KDE.

Every now and then I accidentally max out my hard drive, and when I reboot the machine, GDM won't even launch. That's when it's time to break out the Gnoppix CD! Pop the disc in the tray, reboot the machine, and in a few minutes, I'm launched fresh into a fairly complete desktop environment. I can mount all the partitions from the hard drive by merely right-clicking the desktop, and make whatever adjustments I need to get my computer up and running again.

Or if it looks like I've horked my Gentoo system and I'm going to have to reinstall it from scratch ::sighs:: having Gnoppix around takes off the pressure to get Gentoo running quickly. I can do most of my day-to-day tasks perfectly well in Gnoppix, like word-processing, web browsing and IMing.

You may not use this distro every day, but it's a godsend on a rainy day. I'm personally going to download it again as soon as they have another release with Gnome 2.6!
