Description: "The current version 6.2 has been completely updated from Debian 'Lenny', 'Testing' and 'Unstable', and uses kernel 2.6.31.6 and X.Org 7.4. Microknoppix is a complete rewrite of the KNOPPIX boot system from version 6.0 and up, with the following features: high compatibility with its Debian base; accelerated boot procedure; LXDE as graphical environment - a very slim and fast desktop with extremely short start time and low resource requirements; amount of installed software greatly reduced in the CD edition; network configuration handled by NetworkManager...."

Pros: Lightweight Desktop
Cons: Won't even boot on my Dell Dimension 5100c

I've been stuck on Knoppix 5.1.1 for the longest time. It seems like every release since then has just been getting worse and worse. I booted 6.2 in a virtual machine just to look around and they replaced KDE with a new lightweight desktop called LXDE. The reason I downloaded it was because the USB port on my external hard drive just broke off, so I took the actual hdd out and hooked it into my desktop and was going to use Knoppix to copy my data over the network to another machine. Well, 6.2 froze at the first little ISO Linux Debian message. 5.1.1 is copying my files over while I write this.

Pros: Good tools inside
Cons: No install on HDD

I booted my computer with this distro. It recognized ALL hardware and without manual booting of any ports. Then I could make some data transfer from the HDD to an USB storage.
Now I am able to install another distro for HDD: antiX in the first HDD and TinyCoreLinux in the second HDD (for the fun).
I could made partition modification with a graphic tool: very goot. I am empressed. I will keep the boot CD in my pocket for future PC HW checks and/or recommendations to friends.
Thanks Knoppix.
(hopefully it keeps what it promised..)
