I received my Ubuntu 9.04 CD from Canonical. This was not my first time with this distro,on my deceased laptop I had it installed inside Windows through Wubi. After I couldn't boot into Windows anymore due to corruption of the OS, I cleanly installed Ubuntu. The thing I never could figure out was even though Ubuntu was within Windows, I could still boot into it, but not Windows. Anyway, after the clean install, I had problems doing everything except browsing. I couldn't even install the latest version of Firefox(my preferred browser) after I downloaded it. Also, I found and downloaded the correct driver for my printer and couldn't get it to install. I couldn't even find a defragmentation tool. But even with these problems for me (a newbie), I was impressed with the way the distro found my system drivers (Dell Latitude D610), even my wi-fi and broadband card worked perfectly, in fact, better than Windows. There was no shortage of built in applications to download and apply. Even the auto updates worked fine. Given a little time, I could have figured my problems out. At the time, I didn't know manuals were there to help me, some for download and also at the local library there should be plenty of books on it. I may give it another try later, after I tryout a couple of other distros that I have. My overall rating, B+
