Book can be d/l'd or ordered from Amazon. I cannot say enough good things about this book - I've learned more about Linux from it than anything else. Paul Sheer provides numerous examples of the subject matter he discusses, and this book will give you a comprehesive overview of Linux, covering everything from partitioning, user permissions, the Unix/Linux file directory structure, C programming, libraries, installing packages, protocols, DNS, lilo, Apache, cron jobs, X, security, and certification. That's pretty much lifted from the table of contents, but again, this is a great book. -- J.W.

I have a few other Linux books since I am just beginning with Linux, this book has taught me more and showed me so many things that the other books have left out. Even though I'm a newbie, I have a tremendous grasp of Linux now that I have this book. You can download it for free at http://rute.sourceforge.net/ or Amazon.com seems to have the best price is you're like me and want the book in front of you.

Very well written

Cons:

needs minor up-dates
|
I have learnt more from this book than any other books, I have 3 others in my collection.
None have been as well written and easy to follow as Paul Sheer's book.
I would definatly recommend it to any newbie to buy or to download.
It came with my distro on the CD, so I did not need to download it at all.

Pros:

Well written - Lots of Examples - Great Introduction
|
|
Cons:
|
Not the most in-depth
|
This book is great if you are just starting out with Linux and would like a lot of great reference material, or even introductory reading to just about every aspect of managing a Linux system.
It was my first book on Linux and I have referenced back to it numerous times from everything from Shell Scripting to various commands that I didn't quite understand. Lots of infortmation in one place.
