This is probably a much better programming reference for communications software engineers than the "Gang of 4" book. It talks in-depth about the Half-open protocol pattern, which is the basis for all telecommunications software used in mission critical applications. It also goes into excellent case and usage studies for the patterns, and call processing in general.
