Zorin OS 12 a slow experience

Hello

I installed Zorin OS 12 last week on a Dell Laptop that was previously running Windows 10 with no issues. However on installing Zorin I noticed boot times were longer and also strange is a noticeable delay between clicking on a program and it opening.

The Laptop specs are
Intel Core i3 (unsure of Ghz, it isn't my laptop so don't have it available to check)
4GB RAM.

I tried creating an account on the Zorin forums but I have still not received my email activation link 2 hours later where as this forum sent it instantly.

Although Zorin is not a new distro, you are more likely to get support using a well known distro like Debian, Fedora, SuSE, Mint, Slack etc.

If you want to persist with Zorin the only thing I can suggest is to recompile the kernel, but for a new user without much support or info, this could be quite onerous. There seems to be some slight differences in how this is done for different distros as well as some changes over time.

My advice is to use a different distro. Many people like Linux Mint. I love the Debian version of it.

Afterthought - you may have been hacked and the slow reaction times may be due to this. Bluetooth and wifi hacking are particularly insidious and can be done over 300 feet away. They can also allow an attacker to gain complete control of your device. On the other hand 4G RAM could well be the issue. Can you upgrade to 8G?

4 gigs is about the bare minimum that you can run Windows 10 with. I'd be curious to see what kind of Windows 10 performance you consider to be aceeptable.
