Question OS slow and choppy!

I just installed OS9 on my pc a week ago and realised that it is not at all smooth! the os is slow and the transitions and animations are choppy. it is a dual OS pc on which i run win 8.1 and it is smooth . before this i ran linux mint xiana and it was fine too. the pc is a AMD quad a6 with 4 gig of ram and 500gb harddrive. any ideas to what the problem maybe?

Mint doesn't use compiz by default - Zorin does. Compiz gives you all those cool effects. When you log into Zorin, try clicking on the gear icon in the corner which will give you the option to run "No Effects". If you select that and your system speeds up, it's a graphics issue. You can also run System Monitor while in Zorin to see what process(es) are eating up your system. Check to see if your CPU usage is topped out.
