Zenwalk on an old computer : X restarts when I open terminal

I installed Zenwalk on an old PC, 400mhz Pentium processor, 256MB of RAM, integrated graphics. It works fine, except X restarts when I run terminal.
Everything else is just great, works fast, even GIMP is usable
Now I use CTRL+ALT+F# when I need a terminal, but it's just a temporary solution. dmesg shows no problem.

Any ideas what it might be?

Don't launch a terminal then.

Seriously, it's a bug with Terminal (the xfce terminal) and your video card. It usually goes away if you lower the default bit depth in your xorg.conf to 16. Alternatively you can just use xterm which is already included or install any of the other terminal emulators in the repos (gnome-terminal, mrxvt, termit etc...) which have no problems working with any bit depth.

an other option is editing xorg.conf and disable compositor
