Leaving Zenwalk
For anyone that doesn't know, up to this day I was a dev for Zenwalk. It's sad that it's time for me to leave the project now. :(
The only reason for my departure is none other than the erratic behaviour of Zenwalk's "leader". He was the one to force other devs to leave the project in the past and now he has done the same for me. I won't go into details, but one would think that dedicating so much time and effort to Zenwalk (which is still his personal project) would result to something other than continually getting scorned and eventually banned from the Zenwalk forums (!!!). It just shows the respect he has for the people that work for his project. I just can't go on working for Zenwalk anymore. I feel very sad to leave, as I feel that I have made good friends here. My relationship with everyone else was exceptional (and still is). I am going to miss you all... I'm writing this here, so people will know why I left, I'm not allowed to post to the Zenwalk forums anymore and I'm quite sure my emails will be bouncing off the Zenwalk mail lists soon. Have fun and enjoy life! George (gapan) |
Sorry to hear it, but I guess you have to do what needs to be done. Now is a good time to take your valuble skills and join up with another distro or maybe start your own.
Good luck with which ever path you take. |
I am so sorry to hear George. You were the best! You will certainly be missed.
Where will you go now? Just in case anybody will want to leave with you :) Thanks for helping us all out. --Rasmus |

I am infwonder
I feel very ... shocked about your departure from the team. It's a great honor to work with you. Best regards, infwonder |
Not that I want to stir up the pot on internal issues of Zenwalk, but I love this distro and now am a little concerned about its longevity and future support... Any current devs care to speak to that point?

Hi Gapan,
I'm sad and feel sorry to hear this kind of news. It's also a little bit discouraging for me because I'm very new in zenwalk (I'm a slackware fanboi) and just installed zenwalk 6.0 last night. And then what I saw a couples minutes ago is this thread at the top part. Wishing u a good luck for the future. To all who want to know more (like me) , browse this thread. Gapan, I hope you don't mind. oh, 1 question. Currently do you still use zenwalk? |
Hi!
No, I'm not using Zenwalk of course. I'm on slackware and I'm going to keep it that way. Actually together with a few more ex-zenwalkers, we thought that because we all left zenwalk, that shouldn't be a reason why we shouldn't work together on a project that would be fun for all of us, so we're preparing something that we think will benefit slackware users. ;) |
I just discovered this thread by accident. I was a packager for Zenwalk once but left the project long ago. George, reading what you posted here and also on the Zenwalk mailing list made me feel very sad for you. I'm not sure if you remember me, but anyway, I wish you all the best!
PS: Sorry for bringing this up after such a long time. |
Whoa! I just finish installing Zenwalk for the first time and I came across this thread and now I'm seriously rethinking about moving to Zenwalk. I used to be on Vectorlinux but the 2 very old laptops that I have I'm not sure they are going to be able to handle the new version 7 which is coming out. So I wanted to give Zenwalk a try but reading about developers taking off is making me think twice. I might give Puppy or Slitax a try instead.
Gapan, good luck to you. Let us know if you guys decide to come up with your own thing. For a project, how about a very light version of slackware with enlightenment capable of supporting some old laptops? Just a thought... |
He already came up with his own thing: http://www.salixos.org/wiki/index.php/Home
