Cannot login into XFCE after update
Hi
After I updated XFCE, thunderbird, Firefox and tar I was unable to login into XFCE. All i faced was a checkerd background (X) and a waiting mousepointer. After the update there was a strange daemon called avahidaemon. Disableing it did not help. Does anyone know a solution or how to roll-back an update? thanks DodoTux |
avahidaemon is a dns discovery tool. It's fine and wouldn't have anything to do with this.
Looks like X is working but XFCE is just not starting up all the way. What version of XFCE did you upgrade from and to? Possible that the .xinitrc (or whatever file is being used when startx is executed) may need to be updated. |
how did you update ?
where you in "init 3" mode ? did you run netpkg dotnew ? |
No, i was not in init 3, i was in init 5 using xnetpkg.
And i have it fixed now. I was dumb enaught to NOT read the changelog. There it said to remove howl and python-xdg before updateting. I have removed both and xfce and reinstalled avahidaemon, the new python-2.5 and xfce (latest) and it works now. Even though i must say, that since the update i get a nasty black sceen wih some sort of pixel-error (rainbow stuff) across the screen. I am gonna check later weather I am using the vesa or ati driver. BTW: i have a ATI Rage128, is there a better driver than "ati"? |
for my Mobility Radeon 9600, xorg driver is far better (> 4 times) than ati's proprietary.
BTW on ZW it's init 4, not 5 ;) |
