VL Packages (adding/upgrading/slackware)

Hi guys,

I'm considering downloading VL standard 4.3 for an old P1 180 (80mb RAM). But some of the packages look a little dated (eg kernel 2.6.7). Are newer packages available?

My second concern would be adding extra packages (like those in the deluxe version) for another faster computer. I suppose they don't put them up for free, so can I use slackware packages?

Thanks.

I think the newer VL 5 Soho uses a newer kernel.

There are quite a few packages available for VL. In addition, I have
had good success installing Slack 9.1 packages. I believ VL 4.3 is based on Slackware 9.1. I recently asked a similar question over in the Vector LInux Forums.

Good luck! If you are looking for a simple, minimal distro with lots of punch this is the one!

5.0SOHO rc2 uses kernel 2.4.28.
The 2.6.x kernels still have some issues with CD-burning and such...
