Load Vector using Grub

Hi,

I have installed both redhat 7.2 and Vector 4.0 on my old p166.

Redhat is in /dev/hda1, and Vector is /dev/hda2 both primary partitions.

The swap for Redhat is /dev/hda5 and /dev/hda6 for Vector,
I have two more partitions /dev/hda3(primary) and /dev/hda7(logical) both of these are free.

How do I edit the /boot/grub/grub.conf file in the Redhat partition to load Vector.
Please help me.

Thanks

Your entry should be something like below
Code:
title Vector Linux
        kernel (hd0,1)/boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/hdb5 vga=788
        initrd (hd0,1)/boot/initrd.img
You need to enter the right kernel and initrd name. If you don't use and initrd image then just skip that line.

Before I offer a suggestion can you confirm if Vector can be accessed or not.

Did you make a bootable floppy for Vector?

Do you know to change root from Red Hat to Vector?

If you want to bother with the above a relavant thread is here below

Yes, I access Vector by booting from cdrom and give the option "linux root=/dev/hda2"

No

OK

when you are in Vector, log in as root, click terminal and type

grub-install /dev/hda2

if you have specified Grub as Vector's boot loader. However my Vector 4.3 has a Lilo and you could be as well. In such a case you can replicate Lilo instead by typing

lilo -b /dev/hda2

Either boot loader should report if anything OK or not. If you don't know what you got do both as one of them will respond and no damage will be done.

You then exit Vector and boot to FC, amend its /boot/grub/menu.lst to add this 3 lines

title this is my Vector in hda2
Root (hd0,1)
chainloader +1

save file and reboot

Grubs cout from 0 and so hda2=(hd0,1)

Vector can be booted thereafter regardless whatever boot loader it got.

The technique is called "chain-loading" and the one I use to boot 50+ systems in the box.

Another satisfied customer!

There may be something difficult in Linux and when it comes to boot loaders, never.
