kernel support for ppp

I've got Vector 4.0 installed, but

I'm getting this message when I try to set up PPP when logged in as "root":

Attention: I couldn't find 'PPP' in the kernel or as a module. You'll need 'PPP'in the kernel or as a module to make a PPP connection.

I ran pkgtool and I see PPP listed.

Does anyone know what this means?

I'm using the IDE kernel and I don't have any SCSI devices.

It's working now.

But I didn't do anything other than go get something to eat.

I did shut down and reboot a couple of times.

Maybe something updated itself.
