cannot bring up my cdwriter in vector 5.0 SOHO

My configuration is AMD ATHLON-XP 2100+ A7N266 motherboard. 256MB, RAM. 40GB, SAMSUNG HDD, LG-CDWRITER, AND SAMSUNG DVD drive.

the problem is thought vector is my main operating system. I cannot configure my LG CD Writer in it. The drive is not recognised by vector. not that initrd does not show it but, VASM does not recognise it. i even deleted /dev/hdc and recreated it using VASM. now i am desperate . any way to bring up this cdwriter. HDD is the recongnised drive.

I don't know how helpful this answer will be but are you logged in as root?

You have to enable CD burning in root before you can use the cd-r(w) drives in linux.
