zeitgeist installed with ubuntu 14.04LTS

I went to ubuntu and downloaded the iso for ubuntu 14.04 lts. Burned the disk and installed w/internet connection.

After some exploring I installed Synaptic. Used it to look for games and other cool stuff. When I got to the end/bottom of the list I saw something called 'zeitgeist' was installed on my computer as part of the iso, I assume. Regardless... I read the description of its function and immediately removed it from my computer. If you are running ubuntu, you may want to examine your installed programs and look for this program installed on your system.

I like the look/feel of ubuntu and do not want to change distros. I do not understand the reason for this program being in the iso.

I would appreciate any feedback.

Zeitgeist has been part of Ubuntu for a very long time. If you take a look at packages.ubuntu.com you will see that it was used in Lucid Lynx (Ubuntu 10.04). If my memory serves me correctly it was used before Lucid.

Right. Introduced `Aug ... Oct 2009“

And moved from "universe" to the main repo `March 2011

»zeitgeist« : "event logging framework
Zeitgeist is a service which logs the user's activities and events
(files opened, websites visited, conversations hold with other people,
etc.) and makes the relevant information available to other applications."
