Xubuntu - 'Applications' menu stopped responding

Hi, I just installed the xubuntu version of dapper and everything was working fine at first. I then installed a few packages recommended in the documentation for media support and after I had installed them i can no longer access the 'Applications' menu. Clicking on the icon on the menu bar has no effect and neither does right-clicking on the desktop. This seems a bit odd to me. Unless one of the packages modified the menu in such a way as to screw it up. Has anyone any idea how to solve this? I dont suppose the menu is configured in a .conf file somewhere I can have a look at?

EDIT: I had a look around and found a file in ~/.config/desktop/xfce4/menu.xml and for some reason its empty.... could this be the source of my problems? Any one have an idea how this could have been removed or how to regenerate it?

Cheers,
NNP

This is a known bug in Xubuntu as of 2 days ago. You will need to find the original menu in /etc/xdg/xfce4/desktop/menu.xml, and copy it over to the location in your home directory.

ah, thanks. My quick fix was just to use menumaker. It appears to pick up a lot more programs but it doesnt have the pretty icons ;)
