World of Warcraft got me mad as hell

here is my back story. My son plays world of warcraft on his windows based

machine. He sends me a invite so I can download and run. At the time I
had

Fedora 16. I install wine and I download the small installer. Once installed

you get the big square up where you download the game. It goes maybe quarter

of the way across the bottom. Stops there never goes any further even sitting

for 8 hours.I'm not a linux pro so I think maybe I did something wrong. I

totally wipe out my pc reload fedora. First thing I try wow same spot it

stopped well stops there again. I tell my son cant get it to download. he

gives me the actual disc when he bought it. I try to install using wine. I'm

told no installer can be found even with the disc in. On the disc there is a

directx folder as well installer.exe. I think maybe it doesn't like fedora.

So I wipe out the pc once again. This time I install Ubuntu. Well I try the

download first and my face lights up as it goes past where it stopped with

Fedora. But soon I find right after that point it stops. I just got home from

8 hours work. To find in the same spot as when I left. I know people are

running wow using wine. Why the hell can't I even download it or install. Why

with the disc in and installer present. Does it tell me no installer can be

found. Anyone have a clue as to what would do this. I mean is there possibly something that could be messed up on my Ubuntu install.

I don't play World Of Warcraft anymore (back when I did, it also was on Windows). But have you tried the winehq.org page for World of Warcraft? I'm sure many Linux users also play so they'll be running into problems if there are any (and likely something you have run into). Just from quickly gliding over the page:

Quote:
Installation:
You have to start Blizzard agent manually ($WINEPREFIX/drive_c/users/Public/Application\ Data/Battle.net/Agent/Agent.749/Agent.exe --nohttpauth) before starting installation (wine "World of Warcraft Beta Setup.exe").

Yeah I've been there done that. I get no where with it just more of the same. I wondered if maybe something on my pc makes it stop. Anyone else have a clue. Plus even trying to run the disc and tell me no installer can be found when right there on the disc.

You may want to also try the "Installing" section of the World of Warcraft page. A lot more information can be found there. Also, you may want to use the latest non-stable wine version, or whatever suits your fancy as long as it's not too old.
