A while ago I asked for help regarding installing WoW in ubuntu:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...20#post1860120
and I didn't get far.
I tried again, and got to here on the wine installer page.
and I realized something:
(quoted from WineHQ:
http://www.winehq.org/site/download-deb)
"Installing from the WineHQ APT Repository with the console:
If your system doesn't use a graphical package manager like Synaptic, you will need to edit APT's configuration file by hand. You will need root access to do this and run the commands below. Switch to root by typing 'su'. If you are an Ubuntu user, you can instead precede each command with 'sudo'. Now, use your favorite text editor to open the file /etc/apt/sources.list or use the console editor by typing 'nano /etc/apt/sources.list' and then add the following lines to the end:
deb
http://wine.sourceforge.net/apt/ binary/
deb-src
http://wine.sourceforge.net/apt/ source/
Then, you can run 'apt-get update' to update APT's package information. Finally, to install Wine, do 'apt-get install wine'.
"
those spaces up above... inbetween "apt/" and "binary/"
and inbetween "apt/" and "source/"
are very important! without the space, you can visit the site in your browser window, but you need the space in the line to get it to work in your sources.list file!
Anyways, I just thought it was very cool that I finally got the installer to work, it's even running right now. but if anyone had a similar question in the future, this was a sort of obscure detail.
Thank you everyone who helped me out, you were wonderful.
I'm one step farther away from newbiedom...newbieness...whatever.
