WINE - Doesn't recognize sound devices

As a new Linux user, I recently installed Kubuntu 8.10 with the intent of learning more about the OS. I heard about WINE and wanted to try out some of my Windows applications. So far I've been able to run a couple of games but with one hitch -- no sound.

I've scoured Google for help but I'm still struggling to get it working. My sound works fine in Amarok and other Linux applications but the one I've not had luck with is Wine. Trying to follow some of the assistance rendered in other posts, I was able to find out that my Audigy card is the default (0) sound card and my Logitech headset is the secondary (1). I would like for Wine to use the headset.

When I go into winecfg, I find two things. First, running it from the console returns the following:

err:alsa:ALSA_CheckSetVolume Could not find 'PCM Playback Volume' element
err:alsa:ALSA_CheckSetVolume Could not find 'PCM Playback Volume' element
err:alsa:ALSA_CheckSetVolume Could not find 'PCM Playback Volume' element
fixme:mixer:ALSA_MixerInit No master control found on CA0106, disabling mixer
fixme:mixer:ALSA_MixerInit No master control found on Logitech USB Headset, disabling mixer

When clicking the Audio configuration tab, I see that I'm set to use the ALSA driver but the listed mixers under Wave Out show dmix:0 twice (it does not have an entry for the logitech headset unless I'm misreading this).

In any case, I'm not getting audio from my sound card or my headset. I would be appreciative if anyone has any ideas they could walk me through. Please remember I'm not at all familiar with configuring/editing in a linux environment yet!
