Why won't 5.04 liveCD work?

I have tried the Ubuntu5.04 live CD on four different machines without any
useful results so far. Three of the four machines have no problem with several
different Mepis releases, and even the fourth (a Compaq 233mmx Deskpro)
works apart from a peculiar cursor effect.

Am I the only person to have experienced this Ubuntu-Live problem?

I couldn't get it to work on two machines, but the Kubuntu install CD worked just fine. FWIW, the SUSE 9.x Live CD's wouldn't work for me either.

Thanks for confirming that I'm not crazy!

Will have a go with the install CD.

BTW Mepis is very good: I'd just like to see if Ubuntu
is any better.

Never tried Mepis, but I'm pretty much in the KDE camp.
