Why won't it work?

I tried the live CD and the Install, downloaded and shipped, but it still won't work. In the Live CD and the Install CD it says could not load X Graphics Server or something like that after a install or after everything is booted from the Live. I can do command line, but that's it, blkack screen, white text etc. I believe it may be for two reasons;

1. I am running on a Dell Dimension 3000, and the hardware might be a little goofy

2. When running, it goes for the integrated chip rather than the Radeon I have, and since the integrated is disabled in BIOS, it might be acting goofy

Sorry if I can't give a more in depth explanation, but I would appreciate all help.
