Why a new installed packed will not show up? tcl8.6.0

I looked on internet and found that is you do:

dpkg --get-selections | grep tcl

I get:
tcl8.5

Then I went and installed tcl8.6.0
it passed the make test fine.

But when I do dpkg again still showing 8.5

Should it be 8.6? Thanks

Hi,

Sounds like you installed from source manually, not by installing a deb package. So your package manager knows nothing about it

Yes it passed the test.

Yes I followed this page:

hum.. Perhaps it will be good to create deb pack before installing and then have it like in a repository you could load by apt-get, right?

Actually if you go that route it would be better to install with dpkg;
Code:
dpkg -i <package_name><version>-<debian_version><arch>.deb
Or install gdebi and use it to install the package.
